Signing in and creating an account
How to sign in to BriefTech, create an account, reset your password, and choose between Google, Microsoft, and email sign-in.
BriefTech opens on a sign-in screen. You can sign in three ways, and you use the same three choices to create an account the first time.
Ways to sign in
Continue with Google
Quick, password-free sign-in with a Google account.
Continue with Microsoft
Corporate accounts. Microsoft SSO may need your IT team's approval.
Continue with Email
Signing in with an email address and password, when you don't use Google or Microsoft SSO.
Create an account
You create an account with the same three options — there is no separate sign-up screen:
Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft creates your account from that identity the first time you use it.
Continue with Email opens the Sign in with email form. Select its Create account link to switch the form to Create your account, enter an email address and a password, and select
. The Sign in link switches back, and
returns you to the three sign-in buttons. The eye icon in the password field shows or hides what you type.
Creating an account with an email address and a password signs you in straight away and sends a verification email to that address. Until you verify it, your profile shows a banner with a button to resend the email — see Profile settings. Accounts created with Google or Microsoft have no verification step.
Verify your email before you create your first matter. An email-and-password account receives the one-time welcome credits only if its email is verified when its first matter is created — see Credit costs and pricing. If BriefTech opens the Create a New Matter dialog straight after you create the account, select CANCEL and create your first matter once your email is verified.
The sign-in screen states that by signing up and using BriefTech you accept its General Terms and Privacy Policy, both linked there. There is no checkbox to tick.
Reset your password
Password reset applies only to email-and-password sign-in. Google and Microsoft passwords are managed by Google or Microsoft, not BriefTech.
Choose
.
Select Forgot password? below the password field. The Reset your password form opens, keeping any email address you had typed.
Enter your email and select
. BriefTech confirms that the reset email was sent and returns you to the sign-in form.
returns you to the sign-in form without sending anything.
Follow the link in the email BriefTech sends to set a new password.
After you sign in
If you opened a BriefTech link while signed out, you return to that page once you sign in.
Otherwise you land on the Matters screen, and if you don't own any matters yet, the Create a New Matter dialog opens there by itself.
If BriefTech has just been updated, you may first see a message asking you to wait for the website to update — refresh the page after a minute, and contact support if that doesn't help.
If you can't sign in
An account for your email already exists with a different sign-in method. Sign in with the option you first used for that email address.
Wrong email address, or no account yet. Check the address you typed, or create an account — see Create an account.
Incorrect password. Try again, or reset it — see Reset your password.
Too many attempts. Wait a while before trying again.
Which option should I use?
Select Sign-in options & SSO help on the sign-in screen for guidance. In short:
Google — the quickest, hassle-free choice.
Microsoft — best for corporate users, though it may need IT approval.
Email & password — a good choice when you don't have SSO, or while you wait for IT to approve Microsoft SSO. You can start with a personal email to explore BriefTech and create a corporate account once SSO is approved.
