Document Index presets

The built-in Document Index presets and what each configures.

A preset applies a ready-made set of columns and bundle settings suited to a common document type. Applying a preset overwrites your current column configuration and any bundle settings the preset defines, such as the page-numbering template and, for some presets, the volume page limit.

In the Apply bundle/index preset menu, a tick marks the preset currently applied (remembered across sessions), and hovering a preset shows a summary of what it would change compared with your current settings.

Separately from applying a preset, the same menu offers a Generate index headings action with three options: No headings (a flat list with no heading rows), Group by folder (a section heading for each uploaded folder, grouping its documents), and Group by LOD category (headings from the categories assigned to documents). Choosing any option replaces the index's current headings and cannot be undone. The first time you generate headings on an index, BriefTech asks you to confirm ("This will delete all your current manually created/edited headings and cannot be undone. Continue?"). After headings have been generated once, later choices replace the current headings without a prompt — including any headings you have created or edited by hand since.

Most presets also set a default sort order (File Name, or Date then File Name).

Where a preset does not set hyperlinking (the two Affidavit presets), your current setting is left unchanged — only the presets marked off or on above change it. On a new Document Index, hyperlinking is on.

This table's Hyperlinks in index column is about the Word and PDF index you export from the Document Index. The table of contents printed inside a generated bundle is never hyperlinked, whatever preset you have applied.

Page-number template each preset sets

Applying a preset also sets the bundle's page-number stamp template (see Template syntax; {v} = volume number, {p} = page number):

Where a preset sets no page-number template (Disclosure), your current template is left unchanged.

Sort all sections

When you are working in the interactive Document Index, the menu also offers Sort all sections, which re-sorts every heading section of the index at once. Choose how each section is sorted:

Date	Document date.
Description	Document description.
Filename	File name.

This option appears whenever you are working in the interactive index — including a flat index with no headings. (The Date option sorts by document date, then file name.)

If you choose Sort all sections when everything is already in order, BriefTech tells you the sections are already sorted. The Generate index headings actions need a collection selected — with none selected, choosing one shows a No collection selected message.
