Court bundle settings

The full set of court bundle generation settings and their defaults.

Court bundle settings are grouped into the sections below, matching the Create Bundle panel. A bundle is generated as one PDF per volume, packaged together in a ZIP archive for download.

Cover page

Cover Page Template

Each volume can begin with a cover page. The cover is a DOCX template you upload for the collection, using the Cover Page Template control. The template can include syntax tokens — for example {v} for the volume number and {vT} for the total number of volumes — which are substituted when the bundle is generated; see the Template syntax reference for the full list. (On a cover page, {volumeNumber} renders the volume label and is blank on a single-volume bundle, so {v} is the reliable token for a number.) If no cover template is uploaded for the collection, no cover page is added and the volume begins at the first index, tab or document page instead.

Blank pages before index

Setting
Default
Description

Blank pages before index

0

Number of blank pages inserted in every volume, after the cover page and before the intro document and index. Set to 0 to disable.

Template and document uploads

The Cover Page Template, the Tab / Page Separators Template and the intro document each use the same controls, stored against the current collection:

Control
Behaviour

Status line

Shows Not set when nothing is stored, or the stored file's name once there is one.

Upload / Replace

Opens the file picker. Reads Upload when nothing is stored, Replace once a file exists. The two templates accept .docx; the intro document accepts .pdf or .docx.

Download

Retrieves the stored file.

Delete

Appears only once a file is stored. For the two templates, it removes the stored file. For the intro document, it clears the document from this collection's bundle settings — the file itself stays in storage.

While a file is uploading, the status line shows an Uploading & validating… badge and a progress bar, and the controls are unavailable until it finishes.

Document upload

Setting
Description

Submission / Affidavit / Intro Document

An optional document placed in volume 1 before the index. Upload a PDF or DOCX, or leave it unset (default).

Index / table of contents

Setting
Default
Options

Index generation

Master index in volume 1 and per-volume indexes

No index, Master index in volume 1 only, Master index in volume 1 and per-volume indexes.

Index layout style

Classic table (Volume headings)

Classic table (Volume headings), Grouped by sections (Senior/Junior volumes).

Document Font

Arial

The font used for the index (table of contents). Options: Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, Georgia, Helvetica, Calibri, Cambria, Tahoma, Verdana.

Volumes settings

Setting
Default
Description

Max Pages Per Volume

300

The target page count per volume. This form accepts 31 or more, or blank to use the default; a lower value set via the API is used as stored.

Volume Split Strategy

Auto (smart split)

How documents are split across volumes. Options: Auto (smart split), Allow split when needed, Never split.

Auto Split Threshold (pages)

5

Shown only when Volume Split Strategy is Auto (smart split). A document is then moved whole to the next volume if it would start within this many pages of the volume end.

Volume column template

Automatic default

Controls how each volume's label is composed (for example plain numbering, or a senior/junior form). Choose a preset — Automatic default, Simple, SG ROA, or MY ROA — or write your own template.

Volume Names Overrides

(none)

Optional custom names for your volumes, one per line. When set, these replace the normal numbered volume labels.

Filename on Export

Volume {volumeNumber}

The file name given to each volume's PDF. Once every document in the collection you are exporting from has been charged — the whole matter, if you chose All — it also sets the base name of that volume's Word (.docx) copies in the ZIP, for example Cover - Volume 1.docx and TOC - Volume 1.docx. That test covers the whole collection, so an uncharged document sitting outside the volumes you selected still withholds the Word copies. A watermarked bundle contains volume PDFs only, with no Word copies. Tab pages are named from the document's serial number instead. Choose one of four presets, or write your own — see Filename tokens below. The final name is cleaned before use: invalid filename characters (backslash, slash, colon, asterisk, question mark, double-quote, angle brackets, pipe) are replaced with spaces and the name is capped at 120 characters; if nothing is left, it falls back to Vol {volume number}.

Scaling mode

Keep original page size

Page sizing. Options: Keep original page size, Normalize to A4 by orientation.

How each Volume Split Strategy behaves

  • Auto (smart split) (default) — a document that would overflow the current volume is split across the volume break to fill the remaining pages, unless it would begin within the Auto Split Threshold (default 5) pages of the volume end, in which case it is moved whole to the next volume to avoid a stub.

  • Allow split when needed — a document that does not fit the current volume is split at the volume boundary: the pages that fit stay, and the rest continue in the next volume.

  • Never split — a document that does not fit is moved whole to the next volume and never cut. The one exception is a document longer than Max Pages Per Volume: it cannot fit in any single volume, so it is split regardless of this setting.

Filename tokens

Four presets are offered:

  • Vol {vol}

  • {collectionName} - Vol {vol}

  • Vol {vol} ({v} of {vT})

  • Vol {v}

{vol} renders the volume label built from your Volume column template, so it follows whatever you set there.

To write your own, the field's token picker offers sixteen tokens:

  • Context{workspaceName}, {collectionName}, {today}, {vT}

  • Volume number{v}

  • Junior volume{A}, {a}, {n}, {R}, {r}

  • Senior volume{sA}, {sa}, {sn}, {sR}, {sr}

  • Sections{j}

See the Template syntax reference for what each one renders. The older {volumeNumber} and {totalVolumes} aliases still work, but are not in the picker's list.

Tab / Page Separators

Setting
Default
Options

Tab pages

Double Sided Tabs / Page Separators

No Tabs / Page Separators, Single Page Tabs / Page Separators, Double Sided Tabs / Page Separators.

An optional DOCX template used for each document's tab (separator) page, stored against the collection. If no template is uploaded, a built-in tab page is generated instead: an A4 page carrying the text TAB followed by the document's serial number, centred in 120-point Helvetica Bold.

How many pages that tab occupies depends on the Tab pages setting above:

  • Double Sided Tabs / Page Separators (the default) — the tab is followed by a blank backing page, and preceded by one where needed so it always falls on an odd-numbered page. A built-in (single-page) tab therefore takes two pages, or three when a leading blank is required. If you upload a tab template that is more than one page long, the count grows with it: the tab keeps its own page count, gains a leading blank when it would otherwise start on an even page, and gains a trailing backing page whenever its own page count is odd.

  • Single Page Tabs / Page Separators — the tab is a single page.

  • No Tabs / Page Separators — no tab page is generated.

Per-document overrides

Most settings above apply to the whole collection. Two of them — Tab Page Override and Volume Split Strategy — can be overridden per document from the More actions menu on that document's row in the Document Index → Configure Bundle Overrides, which opens the File Overrides dialog:

Override
Default
Options

Tab Page Override

Default (collection setting)

No tab page, Single-page tab, Pull-out tab — overrides the collection Tab pages setting for this one document.

Volume Split Strategy

Default (collection setting)

Auto (smart split), Allow split when needed, Force into new volume, Never split — forces or prevents volume splitting for this one document.

An override left on Default (collection setting) uses the collection setting. Save applies the overrides; Cancel discards them. Reset to defaults clears a document's saved overrides and is greyed out until the document has one.

A document's volume placement can also be overridden per document without this dialog, from the same menu: Push to Next Volume, Split to Next Volume… and Reset Volume Placement. See Reorder documents and add structure and Split a bundle into volumes.

Bookmarks

Setting
Default
Description

Bookmark Title Template

{tab} - {summary}{partSuffix}

The template used to name PDF bookmarks for each document. Presets: TAB {tab} - {summary}{partSuffix}, {tab} - {summary}{partSuffix}, {tab}. {summary}{partSuffix}. Tokens: {tab}, {summary}, and {partSuffix} — the last renders as, for example, (Part 1 of 3) on a document split across volumes, and is empty otherwise.

Pagination

Setting
Default
Description

Stamp page numbers on

Index, Tab / Separators, Submission / Intro Doc

Which page types get stamped numbers. Available: Cover, Submission / Intro Doc, Index, Tab / Separators. Removing a type hides its stamps only — those pages are still counted in the bundle's total pagination. Any blank pages added by Blank pages before index are always counted and always carry a stamped page number — there is no toggle to remove their stamps.

Page Number Template

Page number only

The format of the stamped page number. Choose a preset — {p}, {vol}-{p}, BOA {vol}-{p}, or V{vol}-{p} — or write your own using the volume and page tags.

Font Size

14

Page number font size.

Font Family

Helvetica

Helvetica, Times, or Courier.

Font Color

#000000 (fully opaque)

Page number colour, with an opacity slider to make the text more or less transparent.

Background Opacity (%)

0

Opacity of the background behind the page number.

Position

Top, right

Where the page number is stamped — horizontal (left, center, right) and vertical (top, bottom).

Horizontal Margin (pts)

22

Distance from the horizontal edge.

Vertical Margin (pts)

22

Distance from the vertical edge.
