Sort documents in the Document Index

Sort documents within Document Index sections by date, file name, or description.

In the Index tab, sort documents by date, description, or filename — all sections at once, or one on its own.

Sort all sections at once

In the Document Index.

  1. Open the Index tab tab.

  2. Click Apply preset in the toolbar.

  3. Click Sort all sections.

  4. Choose Date, Description, or Filename.

Sort one section

In the Document Index, sort a single section from either its heading row or its column-header row:

  • From the heading row for that section — click the sort icon (tooltip Sort documents under heading), or open the heading's menu and choose Sort Files Under Heading, then choose Date, File Name, File Name, or Description.

  • From the column-header row — hover the Description column header and click the sort icon (tooltip Sort documents below), or right-click the column-header row and choose Sort Files.

For exactly what each order does, see Serial numbers and date formats.

Once you sort, the new order is saved straight away and applies for everyone working on the matter: it becomes the saved order, serial numbers renumber to match, and the change carries through to the exported index and the generated bundle.

Sorting stays within each section. Sorting reorders documents within each section only — it does not move documents across heading boundaries. You can drag rows manually after sorting, or sort again at any time.
