Export the Document Index as a Word or Excel file

Export your Document Index as a Word or Excel file.

  1. In the Index tab tab, click Download Files in the toolbar. The Download Files panel opens on the right.

  2. Under Export Type, tick Word to get the index as a Word document, Excel to get it as a spreadsheet, or All Files to get a ZIP containing the source files plus the index in both Word and Excel.

  3. Click Export. For Word and Excel, the file downloads automatically. All Files is prepared in the background: when the ZIP is ready it appears as a download in the panel and you are emailed a link to it — click the ZIP to save it. The emailed link stops working after one day, so do not treat the email as your copy. The latest ZIP stays in the panel: reopen Download Files later and download it again from there.

Exporting the Document Index spends index credits. BriefTech charges for any documents that aren't already part of a paid index, and it never charges without first showing a Confirm Export dialog with the cost. Documents you have already paid to index cost nothing to export again, and Preview Index PDF is always free.

Get the index as a PDF

  1. Click Preview Index PDF.

  2. Use the download button in the preview's toolbar to save it. If the panel is narrow the toolbar's controls collapse into a menu, where the download appears as Download original.

None of the Export Type options — Word, Excel and All Files — produces a PDF of the index.

DOCX is the standard editable format for filing or sharing with counsel; Excel suits tracking and case-management imports. See Export formats and options.
